Two British Nationals Arrested for Drug Trafficking

The Faro Territorial Command, through the Criminal Investigation Center of Silves, have dismantled on 7th March, in Tunes and Albufeira, six cannabis plants greenhouses located on a plot and inside two houses. Two British nationals aged 31 and 32 years have been arrested for the crime of drug trafficking.

As part of an investigation by the Department of Criminal Investigation and Action (DIAP) of Silves, the GNR carried out three searches, during which the following were seized:

  • 31.5 kilograms of cannabis (equivalent to 12,600 doses);
  • 480 cannabis plants;
  • 18.3 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms;
  • Four precision balances; three LCD TVs; two mobile phones; a portable computer; a camera; 785 euros in cash; lighting, irrigation, ventilation and odour extraction systems in greenhouses as well as various fertilizers and other objects associated with the cultivation and packaging of cannabis.

The investigation started about two months ago when a GNR patrol noticed a warehouse with the extractor fans covered in aluminium sheeting. This appeared suspicious and resulted in the identification of another property namely a luxury house in Galé where the men lived. The six greenhouses covered an area of 480 square meters and were sophisticated with elaborate extractor systems.

The action was supported by the military of the Intervention Detachment Unit Faro.

Comment

Clearly a large production operation. Good work by the GNR team for noticing something that appeared suspicious.
