According to press reports in the UK and locally, an English man, aged about 60 years, is organising a regular tourist circuit under the motto of the “Disappearance of Madeleine McCann” which occurred in 2007, in Praia da Luz, in the Algarve.
The tours, which started in March 2016 are entirely dedicated to the mystery of the Madeline, including passing by several key points of the investigation, such as the Hotel Ocean Club, the apartment where they stayed, the restaurant where Kate and Gerry were when Madeline disappeared, the Church of the Light and the nearby elementary school where Maddie was last seen. The circuit also includes possible paths taken by a possible kidnapper.
The organizer stated; “I think of it as the ‘Challenge of Light’. My version of Mission Impossible”. Residents of Praia da Luz described the Englishman as “obsessed with the case,” adding that they were “shocked” and “very angry” when they learned of the “Sightseeing which is in bad taste.”
The participants of the visit are asked to speculate about the whereabouts of Madeleine, kidnapping suspects or even whether the parents, Kate and Gerry are involved in the disappearance.
It is understood the person concerned is a grandfather in his 60s and a resident of Praia da Luz. He is obsessed with Maddie and has written thousands of words about the case and pored over maps, photographs and police transcripts, which is recorded on his blog.’
It is understood the guide does not charge for the tours and prefers to ‘remain anonymous’ because he identifies as a ‘non-character’ in the case.

Unfortunately for some people the disappearance of Madeline McCann has become an uncontrollable obsession. These people have devoted the last almost 10 years delving into trying to discover what the police in the UK and in Portugal and elsewhere have not been able to do so, with all the resources at their disposal. Fuelled by media interest their lives have become focused on the search for Madeline, normally based on rumour and gossip. I am not talking about the family here well as normal members of the public here, many of whom follow the various stories, but those to whom this has become a compulsion and obsession.
Of all the twists and turns in this case this is undoubtedly the most sickening. If true whoever the person is should reflect on how distasteful his actions are, and the lack of respect to the family, friends as well as the community in Praia da Luz.
