As we approach the Critical Fire period when the fire risk substantially increases, it is important that we know how to help protect ourselves and property should a fire occour.
The Municipality of Monchique and Safe Communities Algarve have therefore joined together to hold a seminar to address this important subject. Whereas the emphasis at previous seminars has been the preventative steps that should be taken well before the critical fire period, this time we will focus more on how to protect our homes should a fire actually occour.
Those taking part will be Civil Protection, GNR and Bombeiros. Their presentations will address will cover the following important topics: What the critical fire period means; Communication with the emergency services; Monitoring the outbreak and spread of forest fires; How forest fires spread, Protecting our property, ourselves, friends and loved one; Rescue and evacuation; Dealing with animals and pets and Basic life support – fire related.
This seminar will be based on real life experiences, using file archives, and the lessons learned from these. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions. It will be introduced by the Mayor of Monchique Rui Andre and President of Safe Communities Algarve David Thomas.
Attending this semnar will help provide you with the basic knowledge, which could help save your life. There will be plenty of time to ask questions.
There will also be an opportunity to learn about the GNR Safe residence Program for those living in isolated areas.
This will be in Portuguese and English and entrance is free.
