On Tuesday 16th September a man was shot in the head at the Olhão railway station in the Algarve, but was conscious when he was assisted by emergency teams.
According to a Faro District Command PSP source, the incident occurred at about 18:00 and the victim, a man aged 25 years, was hit by a shot from a firearm. He “has a bullet lodged in his head, but this superficial.” He was “conscious when it was taken to the hospital.”
According to the Correio da Manha the PSP conducted searches on site and nearby and “found several bullets,” which lead to security forces to believe that it could be a shootout between two groups. Commissioner Hugo Marado, Public Relations District Command Faro from PSP said that “The testimonies are contradictory and have not confirmed the number of perpetrators and victims. What we think is that there was an exchange of gunfire between two groups, but the witnesses have different versions and therefore, it is still premature to determine the motivation.” The same source said that one person was arrested for prohibited weapon possession, “a melee weapon with 12 cm blade”, close to the Olhão Train Station.
The case will be passed to the Judicial Police, which will be in charge of the investigation, added the same source
