For tourists

There is little doubt that the Algarve is a “Safe Destination” for tourists and it is important that it is maintained as such.

Much work goes into keeping the region safe through the police “Safe Summer” program, additional police resources deployed during this period and the collective work of the police, Safe Communities Algarve, Turismo do Algarve and other agencies concerning crime prevention.

As in any country there is some crime mainly committed through opportunists, but this can be reduced still further by being “street wise” and protecting your property as you would at home. Also with the Algarve’s active night life with an abundance of nice restaurants and bars, it is important to take care not to “over indulge” in drinking which can lesson your guard – situations which can be exploited by criminals.

Take time to read the downloads on the page and have a safe and enjoyable holiday in the Algarve.

There are currently 84 overseas Embassies and 176 Consulates in Portugal. Should you need assistance whilst on holiday in Portugal the contact details of your Embassy/Consulate can be found here.
